Welcome to Tim’s Digital Source & Printer Resolution Page You’ve reached the home-page for Tim Baty’s Digital Source & Printer Resolution spreadsheet, and related material.
What’s here? This site provides two spreadsheets for use in digital photography. The main spreadsheet does just one thing, namely calculate the optimum print-size from a variety of digital sources - scanned negatives, digital cameras, and Picture-CD & Photo-CD. I’ve also provided a second spreadsheet listing the maximum print-sizes theoretically possible from silver negatives & prints, which helps you to compare the capabilities of digital photo systems with traditional photographic materials. These tools are aimed at users who wish to prepare prints using standard home/office inkjet or laser printers - they’re not intended for professional pre-press work (where the final output is a halftone-printed book or magazine), or true continuous-tone printing technologies such as Dye Sublimation or Thermal Wax. |
